Age Review 4 Stars
Next stop, Valla Beach Tavern, Valla Beach, which is a small town near Bellingen. Very pretty part of NSW.
It’s a five hour drive, which actually flew by because we had a lots of good news within a couple of hours.
Wireless internet in the van is great stuff. We got word that esteemed Melbourne music journalist would be writing some encouraging stuff on the album next week, then found out that The Age had published a review on ‘Earnest’, giving it 4 stars. The cream on top, was a very excited Suzanne at Basement Discs saying that she loved the album. We were knocked out!
Arriving in Valla around 5pm, we had to sit and wait for the restaurant to open up, and asked the locals what had been happening lately while setting up the gear. We were informed the pub had been subject to two armed robberies in past two weeks. In one robbery, one of the ‘stick em up men’ actually carried out a ATM on his back, only to later find out that it was empty…
We proceeded with our 3 sets of music, despite a very woofy sound in the room when we went ‘Dylan’ and changed to electric and people. A good night. Big thanx to you Kate for putting us up!
